the non-capitalization trend is both a noble and pretentious one.
Capitalization shows respect for an Idea. That is the purpose. Capitalizing the first word between sentences shows makes it easier to discern between sentences, respecting the readability of a work and respecting the eyes of the reader by proxy.
the leading argument for No-cap is that it enables faster typing and therefore approaches a more pure stream of consciousness. Many of my friends No-cap. It feels more conversational and casual. I claim it is a bit pretentious. It’s artificial casualness. Most good writing usually requires revision, and it’s unlikely a well written piece is not mulled over a bit. We all know what you are doing.
but I yield that the writability and tone of No-cap has benefits that the readability and intentionality of Trad-cap don’t touch on.
I think you can get the best of both worlds with a mix of both. Digital mediums have ditched indentation. It’s the perfect opportunity to sneak in a No-capped vibe to your writing: I call it the “No-cap indent”. “Paragraph camelCase” was another idea. The concept is self explanatory.
this idea extends to titles. They aren’t part of a paragraph so it doesn’t help to emphasize them (if anything, it’s MORE pretentious to capitalize them. What makes your title so important?).
but I hold pronouns and subjects I treat with respect exempt to this idea.
